Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Whitehorse where your tour guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel for your first night.

Day 2: Whitehorse - Haines Junction
After breakfast take a quick tour around Yukon’s capital before commencing your road trip with a short journey to Haines Junction right next to Kluane National Park. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including one of the highest concentrations of grizzly bears in the country, and much of it still remains unexplored and untouched. Depending on the weather there may be a chance to take a small guided hike into the national park or charter a bush plane or helicopter to fly over this spectacular landscape. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Haines Junction)

Day 3: Haines Junction – Tok
Drive along the scenic shore of Kluane Lake to the Sheep Mountain Visitor Centre and look out for the Dall sheep that make their home in the surrounding mountains. Continue along the Alaska Highway to Tok for overnight hotel accommodation.

Day 4: Tok – Valdez
You will head off along the Glenn Highway, passing spectacular Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Then you will take the Richardson Highway southbound to the small seaport of Valdez at the Pacific coast, crossing of the Coast Range via the Thompson Pass, where waterfalls thunder right next to the road. Surrounded by snowy mountains Valdez is the end point of the world-famous Trans Alaska Pipeline. You will overnight in Valdez.

Day 5: Valdez - Whittier - Seward
Travel the Prince William Sound on the coastal ferry which takes you close to the calving glaciers along the Pacific Coast. With a bit of luck you’ll have the chance to photograph otters, puffins, sea lions, and even whales. Once ashore the next stop is the Portage Glacier, on the way to Seward, a small coastal town on the Kenai Peninsula. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Seward)

Day 6: Seward – Anchorage
Begin the day with an optional tour into Kenai Fjords National Park. A six hour boat trip takes you through some of the finest marine life viewing where whales, sea lions and teeming rookeries are found here in the shadow of towering glaciers. Afterwards drive along the Turnagain Arm to Anchorage, where the rest of the day is free to explore Alaska’s biggest city. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Anchorage)

Day 7: Anchorage - Denali National Park
Move inland and follow the George Parks Highway north to Denali National Park. Go past sweeping panoramic views of distant glaciers, with glimpses of the beaver dams along the nearby river. There is the opportunity to take an optional one-hour glacier flight over Denali (Mount McKinley), which at 6193 meters is the highest peak in North America. This is a highly recommended adventure, particularly when the weather is clear. (Overnight hotel accommodation close to the park)

Day 8: Denali National Park
Take a park owned shuttle bus deep into the park and weather permitting get to view soaring Denali, and with a little luck you will see wolves, Dall sheep, moose, caribou, and grizzly bears along the scenic loop. (Overnight accommodation close to the park)

Day 9: Denali National Park - Fairbanks
You will leave Denali and travel on the George Parks Highway to the city of Fairbanks with a break on-route for a visit to the Alaska Railroad Museum. You will spend the rest of the day exploring Fairbanks. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Fairbanks)

Day 10: Fairbanks - Dawson City
Head out of Fairbanks and you will have the opportunity to see the Trans-Alaska Pipeline crossing the Tanana River right next to the highway. In Delta Junction you’ll re-join the Alaska Highway and stop at the local visitor centre. From here you will strike out into the open tundra along the Top of the World Highway, passing through quirky northern towns like Chicken and Action Wade Camp and crossing the international border again at Little Gold Creek, the highest border checkpoint anywhere on the continent. In the afternoon you’ll cross the Yukon River by ferry to reach Dawson City. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Dawson City)

Day 11: Dawson City
This legendary boomtown was epicentre of the famous Klondike gold rush of 1898, and gold still animates the place. Immerse yourself in Dawson’s history, and try your luck panning the creeks yourself. A visit to Bonanza Creek, the Jack London cabin, the Dawson City museum, and the Midnight Dome are all on the agenda. You’ll also want to take some time to simply stroll around the town, with its garish Gold Rush architecture and friendly locals. In the evening, the lovingly restored Palace Grand Theatre offers musical entertainment, turn-of-the-century style, and can-can girls kick up their skirts for an evening of entertainment at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Dawson City)

Day 12: Dempster Highway
An early start puts you on the Dempster Highway with plenty of time to explore. You will take the Dempster up into Tombstone Territorial Park, where jagged black mountains give the area its name and the vast arctic tundra begins. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Dawson City)

Day 13: Dawson City - Whitehorse
Leave Dawson and head back to Whitehorse via the Klondike Highway with chances to see the mighty Yukon River and a stop at the infamous Five Finger Rapids. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Whitehorse)

Day 14: Skagway
Leave Whitehorse for a day trip through a wonderful variety of Eco regions and alpine landscapes as you cross over the continental divide to the seaport of Skagway. Like Dawson; Skagway is a legendary gold rush town that has preserved its turn-of-the-century character. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Whitehorse)

Day 15: Departure from Whitehorse
With your tour officially over Ruby Range will provide a transfer to the airport or to a connecting program.
